COSTA RICA | 'Branch' of Mexican cartel disrupted. An investigation that began early this year culminated on 16 June with a string of 11 raids on properties in San José and Puntarenas, in which 14 people were arrested. Four of these were Mexicans who, according to the authorities, are members of the 'Michoacán cartel' — presumably an allusion to La Familia Michoacana (LFM). Mauricio Boraschi, the Costa Rican government's antidrugs commissioner, said that the gang took delivery of Colombian drugs on Costa Rica's southern Pacific seaboard, and then stored it for later transport northward to Mexico and, eventually, the US. According to Boraschi, the cartel is already present throughout Central America.
